Heard loads of conflicting rumours about this, anyone know if its going to happen or not? I've heard they were testing it, but have also heard that they've dropped the whole idea... But then NTL are supposed to be offering it soon.

don't know about "before xmas", they only finished the trials last week. Not that it was an open or closed trial, they just sent the config to a few people. I only know because the people on the BY usenet groups were reporting the speed increases.
It took BY 6 months to roll out the last speed upgrades. Am not convinced they are going to be able to do everywhere be4 xmas, albeit, there was many hardware upgrades to do last time . You need to keep in mind that the Blueyonder people now look after the NTL side of things too.

Are you sure everyone is getting one??? These have been available on Telewest for a while now, but cost an extra £10/month or so. They were deffo still using older type boxes on new installs 1 month ago.

Telewest are just robbers & do nothing for their old customers. We have been with them for at least 5 years & pay £67.50 a month & for that we get the starter tv package, unlimited phone calls which we now get charged for if we go over an hour on a call, & a price increase on caller display. & 10 mb line which for the past few weeks has been crap. We either get constant high pings or more recently packet loss which makes playing impossible especially in Cod you go 1 step forward 3 steps back, surfing the net is like being back on 56k & most of the time it happens for a few hrs in the evening. Usually around 7.30 to 10.30pm. Probably all these people getting the 20mb taking up the line. We have had no info about any upgrades. As for the new set top box they have never upgraded or replaced the old box & if we want a new box it will cost existing customers £75 & for us £15 month as well

It took us years to get them to come out to the modem only for the engineer to tell us the modem we had was recalled several years ago.
Thats the service you get for nearly £70 a month if you add the mobile calls they get a hell of a lot more.

I pay almost a ton a month for ours. Didn't know we would get charged if on the phone for an hour with the unlimited phone calls. Noticed that my broadband has been a bit slow this past few weeks too, not been getting over a 1000kb downloads from their news servers like I used too.
I really must look at my bill and see what can be dropped to reduce the cost.

I know you can redial after an hour, but when we signed the contract it was for unlimited use. I suppose my big gripe is for long standing customers prices just keep going up & up they just chuck in an occasional extra tv channel, whilst all around everybody is cutting theirs. Take Talk Talk for instance £21.00 month for an 8meg line & 70 min calls which include calls to 28 countries. Ok I know not everybody is getting 8 meg & a lot have had probs but a lot of that is down to BT doing all they can to hinder them. But if they can all bring down costs then why not Telewest & if Telewest can give new customers good deals why not their old.
I looked into talk talk but as we are on cable now & not BT line (even though we still got the BT box) It looks like we would have to sign up to BT again & probably for 18 months before we could move on. It seems we are dammed if we do & dammed if we don't
