im sorry but ive always wanted to start off something like this.
and the question is..... what is your all time favourite computer game off the past and on what machine.
im talking vintage stuff ere not your new fangled top of the art mega-bit stuff off today.
mine was a delightfull game called BUBBLE BOBBLE on the rather spankey SPECTRUM 128K.
but i did play it on arcade machines first and spent many an hour legging it to the change attendant to get some 10 pences while the continue clock was slowly counting down.
i remember it like it was yesterday ( sigh).
only trouble with the old speccy was enduring hours of time waiting for it to load while listening to what sounded like RTD2 on speed and having black-outs due to all the soddin flashing, to then suddenly freeze at the end of the tape and nothin happen
BUBBLE BOBBLE paved the way then for other superb games such as RAINBOW ISLANDS and THE SNOW BROTHERS.
they dont make em lik they use too. :)

i was also partial to commando and double dragon in the arcade or ye ar kung foo. So many good titles that would have you occupied for hours with no save points, if you died u had to start the fucker again.

Loved everything the bitmap brothers done (known as renegade in later years i beleive) xenon/xenon2/speedball/speedball2/gods/chaos enigine/magicv pockets.........sigh those were the days

I always liked the original Star Wars arcade game..and most of the ultimate games on the Spectrum (Jetpac etc)...R- type was cool and I really liked 4-player Gauntlet..seems crap now though!!

Doom was superb and I have a soft spot for the original Resident Evil, even though I got pissed off by loading times..

the first resident evil rates as my all time fave game of all time

i was totally addicted to it, it had the strangest eerie feeling, and empty, lonely haunting sounds...and the most scarey alsation dogs, and those sharks, no matter how many times i played it i was still just as scared of those sharks as the first time ...and the bad, hammy over acting by the characters seemed to add to the game and not take away

thought it was brilliant cos there were tons of puzzles to work out along the way and you could actually get through the game by stealth rather than just killing all the zombies and dogs... i heard that if you completed it in less than 4 hours you started the next game with a rocket launcher but the fastest i could ever do it in was 4 hours and 3 mins and i could never seem to shave off those few mins ...so i never found out if this was true or not

must be what about 9 years since i played it but i can still remember everything about it.. a pure classic

under three and a half hours you got the unlimited magnum and under three hours got you the rocket launcher.....I could claim to have done it...but I just looked it up on google...easier, although less zombie head stamping

for all time fave game - has to be Elite - played it on BBC b, C64, ST, AMIGA and PC
also loved anything with music by rob hubbard on the C64 - ah, "phantoms of the asteroid"
"kokotoni Wilf" on the 64 - the first game with an incentive to finish it quickly - when you completed the game you got a code to send off, and if you in the first 100 to finish then you got a free "The Fall Guy" for whichever platform you finished "Kokotoni Wilf" on.

them were the days - watching one of the lads trying to see up the reels on "Vegas Jackpot" on the 64 (HONESTLY - THAT DID HAPPEN)

more recent faves incl. Silent Hill - PS1, and of course - the Tomb Raider series and the extreme quality of Soul Reaver - my favourite of recent games.
