View Full Version : how i fell out with hop 12
since last friday ive been suffering packet loss which intermittently kicks me out of the game
ive done a few trace routes and after hop 11 it either shows as times out or this...[Only registered and activated users can see links]
i want to ring BT up but my heart sinks at the thought of having to talk to someone who wants me to check that my modem is installed ok, if i have got other programs running and and go through the written down stuff they have to check ...when i know its nothing to do with that
any suggestions/help?

hop 12 is actually entry to the network of which we reside... that aint the issue, it is the one be4 that. LINX, big fuck ups there in recent weeks.... netrino actually set some shit up to provide better access through LINX, via the rapidswitch peer... else ya ppl would be fubar.

I say email that shot (and possibly a few others) to them. Don't phone them, I had to explain the to guy on the otehr end of the line when our connection went down (we could hardly even understand each other) that the problem was not in our house and that the router at the point of presence needed rebooting.
After 30 mins of this bullshit I started getting angry at him and telling him just to check the router, another 10 mins later he gave in a agreed then came back to me and said the router was 'broken' and he couldn't reboot for at least 2 days so in the end I put my dad on (who's a BT engineer) and 2 mins later the connection was back as the guy agreed to reboot the thing after he pointed out that he manages the people who manages him.
To put it simply the only way to get anything done with BT is threaten to leave or to be related to someone who can do something about it. And even if you leave they still get the line rental off the smaller companies so the only real way to spite them is to have no boardband.
One of the worst helpdesks I've ever phoned though.

You must remember that it aint always the fault of the company you call, the network does not work like that.
As previously mentioned, massive incident in the LIX about 10 days ago with a lot of co's having to do a dance to recover from the situation. Some done good, others not so good... some hard coded new routes, others didnt.
I can only guess it is a fall out from that... BY, NTL, and Gavlenet have no issues so it is most likley a bt related issue.
