The question was aksed of me whether i have COD2... i have COD2 but have real bad graphic problems with it and also COD1 too after formatting my hdd.

hdd failed after a power cut.
removed hdd to fix in another machine.
bought new hhd loaded XP etc plus COD1 and COD2 onto the new drive.
lost my original drivers for my graphics card so downloaded newer version.
COD1 played jerky but COD2 was ok. ish.
tried several different drivers still no joy but eventualy got COD1 playable.
COD2 however was like playing a 2D game.
Fixed my original hdd and refitted it, formatted, loaded XP.
COD1 playable but not great and COD2 totaly awful.

at a loss as to what the cause could be coz before the power cut everything was good. the only difference is coz i cannot remeber which drivers i had installed at the time so have new ATI drivers installed.

as things stand atm COD1 plays ok but a bit screen laggy.
COD2 not playable. everything else etc perfect.

system

k8npro nforce3 mobo
AMD 64 3200
1gb ram
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
120 maxtor hdd
80 samsung hdd
XP pro

any help appreciated.

cheers.

Could you run memtest just to start eliminating possibilities.

remember to install your motherboard's chipset drivers

Nforce3 Chipset Driver 5.11 ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

Is it just CoD games that suffer or have you tried others?

As Russ says, make sure the mobo chipset drivers are up to date then have a look here and see if any of the guides help:-

Check your swap file, I found after a reinstall it had been turned off:oops:

I normally manually set mine to 2 - 4 gig.

Also if you have two hard drives in you can spread your swap file over both of them to increase efficiency.

what russell says is the correct answer, if your chipset drivers are not installed, you gfx might not be running at full capacity

Thx for all the replys

my chipset drivers are fully loaded.
only have one hdd installed atm. my original 120gb maxtor.
not tried any other games yet but might be worth testing to see how they run.
memtest: my memory sticks are working fine coz im able to muli task without problems.
just my graphics are not 100%, probably due to driver issue.

@rince.. do you know what driver version you're using by any chance? im using 6-8 _xp-2k_dd_35179 version.

ive restet my system to how i first had it when everything was working ok, and the only difference being different drivers for my g/card.

just to give you all a bit of background; ive built many computer systems and have usually been able to fix problems that crop up, but this one has me stumped.:-? although, im pretty sure its to do with the drivers for my g/card.

will never have another ati g/card im any of my systems again. imo ati cards are very powerfull but, however, i have never had any sort of issues with setting etc with nvidia cards.

8.282 is the same as 6-8 _xp-2k_dd_35179 . 8.282 is the driver 6-8 is the version numbers release. so that means not only isa our systems the same but we have the same drivers. hehe. so why doesnt my pc work with them. must be something else then i guess.:-?

As you've done lots of builds could you not simply accept a lower degree of detail and try out an alternative lesser card with alternative drivers and see if it solved the problem. If it does then it's the card/driver at fault. If it doesn't then you can stop swearing at the ATI and look for something different to swear at.

thx m8. however, after checking the ati site it seems that i have the same driver as you anyways. now that is strange. same setup and drivers.

the details i posted is the release numbers and 8.282 is the driver which is the one i have installed already.

gonna have a play around with the pc this weekend and see if i can sort it out.

thanks for all the help guys. much appreciated.
