My apologies in advance for what may be a steep decline (in what was never that high a flyer) concerning my quality of game over the next few days (weeks?).

My nice new Nostromo arrived today and I've just spent 40 minutes tinkering with it and now require a heap of online gaming to realise that the promises on the box of how wonderful it was going to make me, a killing machine no less, may have been just a tiny bit.....exaggerated.

I'd also forgotten that I have unusually small hands....meaning I can't reach all the darned keys. :roll:

Anyhow, that's my excuses lined up.

If you see an apparent drunk staggering across the battle field feel free to club me as I go by.

No worries maggot, had mine for a month believing all the hype and guess what I'm still crap. :wink:
Must admit it does take a bit of getting used to but you do become proficient quickly in one tactic used by one of our esteemed members that of instant horizontalness, the well known WAGS manouver :lol:

I thank you... :D

Actually Maggot, after a while you'll be so used to the Nostromo, that using the keyboard will seem rather awkward. So give it time.....

How did you feel about the Keyboard and Mouse combo before your Nostromo Wags?

Q =Toggle Prone
A,S,D,W = Move about
Mouse = Aim
Mouse1 = Shoot
Mouse2 = Toggle Aim Down Sight
E = Use
R =Reload
Z,C = Lean
CTRL = Crouch
SHIFT = Melee
1,2,3,4,5.. = Select Weapon

The above is my standard configuration for COD and any other game that has similar actions. I obviously use the above to do general things in the game like move, shoot, aim, walk, run, lend round corners, hit the deck, crouch, melee ect... There is no requirement to think about any of those actions, if I want to do something I do it automatically the way I want when I want. And this is the key to any game as far as I'm concerned.

If you have to spend even a fraction of a second thinking about what keys to press then your at a disadvantage straight away. Anyone here thats doing this should think about changing there setup. You need to get to the point where anything you want to do happens unconsciously and automatically. This not only makes you faster but frees up your mind to think about other things like anticipating what the other player might be doing.

Other less important actions like switching to single shot mode, or talking and to some extent changing weapon have been relegated to other areas of my keyboard and I may have to look at the keyboard to select them. But thats only a minor inconvenience. Everything I need quickly is near my fingers.

One problem I have at the moment though is sprinting. I've mapped this to F as control is to awkard for my sausage like fingers. This has really thrown off my balance. I'm not hitting T for talk instead of R for reload ect... Which has got me killed a couple of times. The problem is its a key I need in a prime position, but I dont have any available good keys left to map it too...

And this is why a bit sus about the Nostromo. I'm not convinced it can give me the same level of fluidity as my keyboard/mouse setup does. Just wondering what you thought about this.

It was OK and like you I had programmed keys on the keyboard to suit me rather than using the standard default set-up. However, the Nostromo feels more comfortable to use and of course, with less keys to worry about, is for me, somewhat easier to navigate around without hitting the wrong one. Further more, the multi directional pad is really good to use - this is operated by my thumb and I have it progranmmed to stand/jump, crouch and go prone (Kingy loves this one 8) ) I did play around with the configuration before I was happy but feel that it has improved my playing, as a real 'Mr Average' kinda guy.

BTW I have programmed the 'sprint' key to be actioned by my little finger...which works really well.

At the end of the day, you are an incredibly good player Willo and maybe using a Nostromo won't materially improve your play....the only way to really tell, is if you try one out for a while.

Same boat as Willo (with some k/b variations) and my mind is free. In fact I was trying to think where my "prone" button is and I don't know! Stick me in the game and I'll hit it as soon as I need it without looking away from the on screen action. I reckon I will get a Nostromo in due course just to satisfy my curiosity but call me Mr Sceptical.

One problem I do have with my k/b mouse set up is that on good ole vanilla cod I have my bash key on one of me extra mouse buttons which is also Alt on the k/b. In UO Alt is the sprint button this means I'm scrambling around when I want to bash in UO and I hate scrambling around :evil: I'm having a really hard time sussing out the logitech mouse program.

Me too because I like the sound of that directional pad that Wags mentioned. But I have a hard time imagining anything being better than a mouse/keyboard combo.

Think I might assign sprint to mouse scroll wheel, Because I dont use that at the moment.
