i am eagerly awaiting the release of doom 3 , but was worried my computer specs would let me down.
i went to [Only registered and activated users can see links]
to have a nosy.
be warned these notes are 21 pages long 8O
basically i was surprised as they give screenshots for doom 3 played at low res with a g-force 4 graphics card and they dont look that bad.
i have a 256mb , radeon 9800 pro graphics card with 8x AA
apparently i will be able to run the game at top res with high detail, and no lag will be found :D . of course memory and mb chips also plays a part but from what i read and saw, most graphics cards will play the game to a satisfactory level.
this then means i might not have to sprise open my wallet after all.
unless of course i get a new 512mb ati radeon instead. 8)
I don't get any satisfaction from killing monsters. Is it just me?
I bought Halo and the Half Life box set. I really gave Halo some time but alas I just couldn't get in to it. I haven't even installed Half Life
If you like the scary monster killing then fine I envy you , I'm merely wondering if anyone else is like me and prefers 1st PERSON shooters?
My faves to date* COD (obviously) MOH + all expansion packs. Max Payne 1 and 2 and finally Splinter Cell.
*Ok I was a late starter hehe

ohhh echo how could you.
not install half-life. are you insane?
the half-life game and add-ons are simply put , superb. :P
its very atmospheric and blue shift and counter-strike really coincide well with the original.
i dont like the multiplayer for half-life though as the weapons are to futeristic and you get shot from 5 miles away.
if you have a day spare though install half-life and give it a whirl.
the story-line is gripping stuff.
I might hava a spare afternoon in 2025, early june to be exact.
I will get round to it though but I'm skeptical.
This morning a work mate insisted I watched the trailer for Doom 3 and I got bored half way through  it almost made me do some work I've got pending!

I've still got the original Doom & Doom 2 - both on floppy disk sets!
Half-life was/is sublime, the multiplayer game was where me, Willo & Envoy learned our trade. Usually just the three of us online, the funniest games when we chased each other armed only with the crowbar/wrench
It has to be said that I was an utterly crap player then, but as we progressed to games like Unreal Tournament, UT2003, MoHAA, HALO and CoD I've got much better - but still not as good as those two. B@stids. :D
I prefer "person" shooting, but every now and then a monster bash is just what the doctor ordered.

I basically like to shoot stuff, half life mmm.. did like it, great story i agree Rince. But after a while these sorts of games do my head in with the unrealistic plasma, flux capacister double ice spray thingy, with a double giga watt shield array 8O
Give me the good old semi realistic 1st person shooter, with weapons ive herd of before !! I dont want to freeze the enemy I wanna blow them apart with a good ole burst of automatic fire.
I do like a good retro air to air dog fight as well........

I remember Doom coming and borrowing the company laptop to play it! Well cool! But then I like gaming in general and will more than likely enjoy anything I play. As long as I understand what the game is about, and how to play it, I'll probably enjoy it.
Third person shooters are my favourite though, along with RTS games like Command and Conquer.
I did like Half Life, but I defintely hones my skills on Counter Strike which I played a hell of a lot for years while Melanie was in China. It was obvious people were cheating, but I enjoyed it anyway! Playing against cheats definitely forces you to be fast and accurate and I enjoyed the challenge of beating them anyway. My favourite map was defintely... hummm cant remember what it was called... The one with the big warehouse you had to rescue hostages from... That map was very very tactical, brilliant fun!
Anyway I'll be getting Doom 3 simply because its breaking new ground! Hope the multiplayer is a bit more interesting then FarCry though... What a load of crap that game is!

command and conquer , zero hour = classic! :D
I haven't played Doom or Doom 2, but will get Doom 3. I tend to prefer WW2 type FPS, but loved Half Life and Opposing Forces. Infact HL was the first PC FPS game I played (I'm a late developer  ).
Doom 3 has been hyped to death, so let's hope it lives up to the promise of great graphics AND more importantly good game play. If it's just eye candy and a conspirousy between Nvidia and the games developer (to get everyone to buy an FX6800 card, then I will be disappointed.
BTW Play.com have it on pre-order at £27 odd incl delivery (£44 RRP)

eat some of this you demon-infested-human-thingy.......yeah , you want some as well, eh?!?!?!?
ah , much better. :P
wow...i am truly shitting me kecks while playing doom 3.
this game takes scared-shitless to an all new level and i would advise the wearing of nappies while playing it.
the graphics are awsome and you really feel like your there, alone,in the dark with screaming and sounds of mutilation going on around you.
the effects of your flash-light is excellent and i wet myself when looking into a dark corner. you think you see something move and so switch your torch on to see, and all of a sudden a thing with more eyes then a spider jumps at you. 8O
the AI of the various enemies is also impressive and will hide behind crates till you pop your head round.
the weapons up to yet are really good and the loading and sounds of the guns are a dream.
the downside is that you cant lean round corners , but you soon forget about it when a headless torso is homing in on you.
the 17 certificate is well awarded and the blood that splats on the backgrounds when you pop a cap into someones head is most impressive.
excellent game. most enjoyable and not for the faint-hearted.
im okay because my mum sits beside me and holds my hand while im playing.
Rincewind, can I ask where you got Doom iii from ? I only ask 'cos I thought it is due for release on 13/08/2004.

Well I cut my teeth on the very first Wolfenstein.
In them days "Boy Am I Showing My Age" it was state of the art......
Proberbly because it was the first FPS.
I have played all the Unreal aswell as UT2000 + Unreal 2,Still prefer the original type guns though,as does Joe.Also played all the Doom series "WOW",and
Half Life "What A Game" the add on`s where better than the game I thought.
CC yea I liked all of them......But has anyone played Renagade an FPS done by the CC people,"What a great game that is"now you can pick it up for a fiver"Multiplayer is not good though",but the storyline will drag you in, a very underated game.
I also played Total Anhilation, thought that was great aswell.
Im` also into Combat Flight Sims "When I get a chance to play them"
My all time Fav has to be Battle Of Britain, it still has a large following
and many updates have been done by ordinary people on the web finding out about the code etc, which the company gave them so they could improve the game.
Even down to different nose markings "all taken from the original squadrons that flew in the battle.
I also like I.G.I."I`m Going In" thought that was good aswell.
Could not get on with Splinter Cell. :?
Praps cos I like to kick in doors and go in shooting
Also if you like FPS games check out Chaser,I finshed it a few months ago,
a really great game.
Although set in the future you play the part of a marine who finds himself on a slab in a starship, and you have no memory of how you got there or of who you are.
With no guns either, all of a sudden the ship is attacked by elite marine forces looking for you know who, find a weapon and fight.
This game takes you to Earth, and helping gansters, to the frozen parts of Russia, and to the stars to get to a certain planet.
All the time trying to get back you`re memory and this happens in flashes in the game.
Games Wish list : :D 8O
Doom 3,
Half Life 2,
C.O.D. United Offensive "OF Course" A MUST.
I also like to get my hands on Brothers In Arms,That looks really good too.
Ok Roll On Chrimbo :D
I`ll give my list to the missus`s :D

Me too! I was hooked from the original C&C, and I think I've had em all since then. There were a couple of the series I didn't like... Mainly the one with the big yellow Star Wars walking AT-AT thing... But other than that, brilliant fun! Especially Generals.
Only played online a couple of times though. Normally I play against a mate, or on skirmish mode. I always get blown away online! I'm sure its like every other game, and practice makes perfect, but C&C games take to long for me to bother with.
Good stuff though!

i myself am a regular zero hour fanatic and have completed all the series. :D
me and my mate love going in a skirmish against four computer run armys.
for those who havnt already tried playing custom maps goto here
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
this site also has mods which are fun to experiment with. some just change the skins of the vehicles , but others give each general a new arsenal of weapons and super weapon.
some maps dont have AI with them though so you wont be able to play the computer.
try em out and see what you think. i found them most enjoyable.
p.s. before adding a mod make sure you take any new ones out or the game wont load.

8) Half Life was the first game i got into after ditching(sadly with tears in my eyes!) my humble amiga 600 with a massive 20 meg(yes meg) hard drive. It was a game i could not put away until i completed it,and one of the 1st we played on LAN along with UT.Great fun.
There's a good review of the game on BBC's website:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
I haven't ordered the game yet......I'm still hiding behind the sofa and afraid to come out after reading the various reviews...

What's the consensus of opinion from you guys who have 'purchased' (loose term to some) the game....?

Ok Wags went out and spent my pennies this morning 8) So why am I posting this and not playing I hear you say. Its cos im stuck already, on my first mission  Killed all the nasties just carnt get out and back to the security HQ (ok...ok..Im lost)
So Russ etc... HELP !!!
As far as the game goes for me so far (limited as it is) all I can say is WOW !! It scares the pants off ya 8O its real hide behind the bedcovers stuff, I could feel my own heatbeat 8O as I fumble aroud in the dark waiting for some crazed thing to do me over.
Just think of a tense horror film packed with suspence, wrap it up with a dash of Freddy Kruger, scream etc.... and your there.
So far im really impressed, had a quick go in multiplayer which didnt flick my switch, its very URT, Quake type etc.....now ive just got to find my way outta here !! so I can continue with the single player story 8O
Joe (£29,99 the lighter and lovin it !!!)(dont buy it for the multiplayer alone guys)

wags , simply put its a game thats got to be on your shelf.
the atmosphere is tense and while playing you think you're watching a horror movie.
just the background sounds alone make me piss myself and thats before i mention the baddies. 8O
the added fun is having your torch out and then going hysterical trying to get out your gun because a rocket-firing-skeleton has jumped in your face.
i give it the thumbs up and reccomend anyone who likes thrills to go out and buy it. :D

Doom 3" is scary. Throughout the game's more than two-dozen single-player levels, demons and transformed zombie humans will hunt you down in claustrophobic corridors, drop from the ceiling, tear through a staircase underneath you or jump through air vents along the wall.
Yea good review Rogue I`ve played the other 2 so I will be playing this.Ordered the dvd version £17.95 "out in Oct",but I can wait :D .
In the meantime I`ll hear all you guys screaming ,whilst playing it :D .

Well, I was lucky enough to have received this game as a birthday gift today (good 'ol mum and dad know what their 38 year old kid likes). .
First impressions are good. I was surprised how smoothly the game runs at 1280 x 1024 with my FX5600 Ultra on medium quality, The eye candy is great and it's certainly a scary game with all those nasty beasts leaping out of nowhere. The detail levels and skin textures are very impressive..
One thing I don't quite understand is why the other guards/marines are shooting at me. Have they been possessed in some way ?
I'll have another go on Saturday....thank God for the F5 quicksave key. :o

Happy Birthday Wagsy :D :D :D .
So you finally got Doom 3,bout time.
As for me I`m waiting for the single dvd version which I`ve pre ordered :D the same for COD (U.O). :D .
But I can tell you guy`s,I have just ordered Painkiller from play.com for
£17,and its £30 in some shops 8O .
I had to get it after reading some reviews ,plus I had a go of it on my brothers machine, and that was when I just knew I had to get this.
It is very much like Doom 3,dark ,and forbidding, some of the Demons are awsome in size.
It`s one of those games you can play more than once as you can unlock different places, and you also get certain cards to give you different benefits within the game.
First impressions of this game, and the thing that hit me was the graphics.
It is so beautiful to look at,but the great thing is it plays well too.
Take a look at it if you get a chance.

Have made it (at last) to what I think is the entrance to hell - or at least a stone's throw from it.
I am now faced with two seriously dangerous suckers who show up through a "Stargate" lookalike portal, and there appears to be no way to kill them. There appears to be no-where to run (not that there's much time to look for an exit).
So...... any chance of a hint on how to defeat these guys?

yep, i used the rocket launcher. as soon as you can move backwards and fire at the nearest one. the demon you hit first will move back a bit so then hit the other one and keep doing that.
i just done it but they got bloody close to me and i hit my self a bit with the last rocket i fired.
i think they take about 6 shots each.
