Reads nicely and has some worthwhile vids.

Kind of like an update to BF2.
I remember disliking the first Flashpoint game as too hardcore (and also I was confused as heck about where to go and what to do)

Not read the link yet, but I totally understand your sentiments regarding Flashpoint... It didn't sit right with me either.

Long range shots can come out of nowhere and end your progress before you even have the time to take a breath - this is combat at its very finest.
Sounds like loads of fun. There you are thinking your doing really well, and KERRRRRPO[Only registered and activated users can see links]! You toast. This sounds just how I remember the first game. Frustrating. I think this game is for a particular person. Which aint me.
It looks interesting, but has been dumbed down for consoles. Apparently it can get tedious covering large distances by foot (no surprise there then) !

Hmmm. Ok, how about Arma 2

Obviously its utterly different from cod......not sure if it would be fun or not.
I'd be willing to have a go at OF.DR if enough people were interested. Arma II also looks good, albeit difficult. I'd give this a go too!
CODMW2 is out soonish (ok it's delayed 2 weeks), so at least we have something new to look forward to.

I think it's smart to realise that cod has never (well not after cod1) been much like a war sim. It's a game with guns is all. (kind of like its silly to be irritated if a gun doesn't act like it would in real life,) even aside from the perk system.
Arma and OF.DR are both nearer to war sims (I agree that OF.DR looks like it's been simplified in a kind of haphazard way - possibly to the point of breakage). Arma looks like it's much nearer to a war sim (ok you can stage silly things with it like that air battle, but that's just fooling with the engine), but what I can't see.....is quite where the fun would be in that kind of slow, creeping progress.
It looks gorgeous and I love the fact that grass can be pushed down, and that the folliage has a real impact and though still pixelated it looks gorgeous. But maybe it's just too serious/real for us? I don't know.

I'd give Arma 2 a go...... so long as I can be a chicken.

Aaaaaaaaaaaa. Flakey, i was just sounding people out, i didn't want us to jump in (and then find only 3 people had it, or worse one.....) and then hate it.
Arma2 reads as an interesting game with a lot of flaws/bugs.
When I've watched it on you tube I'd say that it looks realistic (as much as I'd know) but that the realism may actually make it dull. As in, careful, careful.........dead.
The single player missions read as particularly flawed (survival of your team mates is as important as your own and if one wanders off and gets shot you may have to reload the save game because they're integral to the story line).
Then again in the same review it says that
....the multiplayer component of the game, which fortunately delivers a much more solid experience. Though traditional modes such as deathmatch and capture the flag are available, the game's built-in editor allows for much more creativity. One multiplayer mission type pits all of the players on the same side and tasks them with eliminating enemy soldiers, one city or base at a time

£23.99 Wags, which is close to the Amazon prices plus postage. And I get it sooner. :-D
No worries, Maggs - I am an impulsive chap.
Falky, have you tried this again since I quizzed you on TS?
I'm just downloading a demo of Arma2 from gamershell....Weighs in at 2.4gig. So will see what it is like myself.

There is a demo... Cool I'm download it too, is there a multi player aspect too it?
T is there a multi player aspect too it?
Yes, although I have only had a go at the single player. It is a bit like a very realistic and much harder BF2. It is difficult picking off the enemy at range though. Nice graphics, but the commands given like 'enemy 50m north' are in that BT automated phone style - if you know what I mean!
I certainly think it is worth having a go (before splashing out the readies like Falky!:sqwink:)
It would be interesting to see what you think of it Willo. You may need to update Direct X if you get an error when it first fires up saying 'x3D Audio l_6.dll was not found'.
