I had a big chunk in my throat too... it was bile I think. Call me a miserable bastard, but can't fucking stand all this sickly sweet, sugar-coated lazy television shite. Where's my gun!!! For the people who make this crap(and simon cowell) not the contestants I must add.

I think its amazing what people can do, even with something so simple as a voice. I'd like to see a lion or tiger or bear do that! Ha, fuck you creatures of the earth, we're top dog round here, muhahahaha!

Come on now Necro, how can you not like Simon Cowell, he's funny as fuck. Some of the stuff he comes out with cracks me up, and he's so dead pan.
what it is that makes me cry.. and maybe this is what necro means .. i find it so moving and inspirational that people that have never had the backing or resources to become what they could be, like the opera guy... and then this lack of backing and not being middle/upper class allows them to be 'exploited' by shows like this.. to entertain us working class folk ... and we pay for it by voting and so endorse this way of our talented working class 'making it'
it is a control thing.. keeps us poor buggers happy and optimistic and deluded

How can I not like simon cowell? Perhaps it's because he has brought us so many gutless, banal acts over the years and helped to drain any spirit the music world might be left with... Oh yes and then there's the programmes that help spoonfeed this wanker with more bland acts that can stick around for five minutes and spout trivial dross for a couple of records (music and lyrics not by them I must add) then disappear up there own arseholes where they belong. While your mother, father and other inlaws can all sit there and say "aww, I really like those hearsay, spice girls, boyzone (pick any of the many) there so wholesome and clean" Fuck that. The world is full of this vacuous dross that the people in 'the biz' all tout as being so important and meaningful. And it is just getting worse thanks to programmes like Britain's got talent and people like simon cowell. How the hell can I do anything else but loathe and detest him and his ilk. Rant over.

for me its the fact that ordinary people that havnt had the breaks in life get to do something that they obviosly love doing in front of the nation and maybe even get to give up their day jobs and carry on doing it .. good luck to em i say cos it must take some balls to get up there and do it
and i agree about simon cowell its funny some of the stuff he says
the other night he made a comment about this fat bird that did a dance routine and at one point she got picked up in the air by 4 guys how it must have broke their backs hee hee
so fuck off necro ya big homo :)

Did he really make a joke about that hellfire. Jesus, I wish I had watched. It must have been hilarious. She was overweight and he made a joke about some men having trouble lifting her. Oh, I feel such an idiot. I prostrate myself before Simon's comedy genius.

I have to admit that I find the program too depressing to watch, though I quite liked a couple of the peices linked in here (could do without the ahhhh 6 year old though).
It's not terribly surprising that some people can sing and yet haven't travelled down that route for their lives so this whole Britain's got talent line is just a catch designed to get the old internal flag awaving and bums on seats.
I'm a little surprised at the vitriolic nature of Necro's dislike, Cowell is a nasty git...yes.....and so? Some of the acts suck big time....um......so what? There are tons of talentless people out there (I'm one myself) who delude themselves that they have something special. These are just ones who also think it might take them out of the mundane pits they've dug for themselves.....rather like the assumption that you're number's gonna come up in the lottery.
The show itself seems to rely on people's willingness to be judged by their lessors in order to maybe get a shortcut break into "showbusiness". And the audience gets to get some voyeuristic kick from either urging them on or lauging at their misfortune. It's too cruel for my entertainment - rather like big brother.
I can't say that any of the music relating to this prog does anything for me (I've heard better renditions of the 6 year olds song by two people, my fav being Eva Cassidy). These folks are amateurs with talent yes, but they're not producing great music yet, just a spark of something that could be made better if crafted a bit I guess. It's the single aspect of the program I can appreciate - the idea of finding that spark and doing something with it - but the fact that a few folks get to be publicly tortured for it - I think I'll skip it.

omg u can yak
think i fell asleep twice while reading that post

at the end of the day whether its to peoples taste or not the programs of this nature when people are auditioning is funny as hell and to be honest a good break from the usual bollox thats put on our standard 5 channels

I dont think Simon Cowell is nasty. He would be if his sole intention was to hurt the person he's talking about, but I dont think he does. He just says it like it is, and wanker or not he does know what he's talking about. I dont actually watch Britain Has Talent either, partly for some of the reasons you mention Necro. But I've seen enough to know that a lot of the people that enter the contest really dont have anything to give. And he just holds a mirror up to that. And lets not forget, these people are doing it to themselves. If I went on there and murdered a song, or talent, I wouldn't then stand there expecting glowing praise.
I think part of it is that people in this country dont say what they mean, myself included. I had some soup at work the other day and it was positively disgusting, really harsh and salty without any redeeming features. I left it in disgust. The next day the woman who had made it and sold it too me asked me why I'd left it. Instead of telling her that it was the worst soup I'd ever tasted and that I had felt angry and cheated, I said "it was really nice, but I was too full to eat it all"??? End result? Her soups continued to be shite, and I dont eat there anymore. So watching someone willing to give honest feedback regardless of whether its what the recipient wants to hear or not is fascinating and amusing.

Can't believe you were surprised by my vitriolic reaction maggot. What else would you have expected? lol
Hellfire, this is the usual bollocks they put on our five mundane channels. That's all there seems to be these days - some unreality show or some sort of pop audition show. I just want some manner of entertainment that doesn't involve this sort of stuff.
Oh, and I don't think Simon Cowell is a nasty git... I think the nasty git act is old, tired and fooling no one. Willo, you should of told that woman her soup was foul and saved the next poor sod from eating it.
this is the usual bollocks they put on our five mundane channels.
I have to agree with you there Necro. It's all X-factor, find a new lead for Joseph, Grease, discover a star, etc and if it's not a 'talent' show it's tripe like Big Brother (sorry Pup:wink: ), instant makeover or how to be a property developer and other nonsense. The fact of the matter is that it is cheap TV to produce and attracts hoards of the viewing public....and whilst the public appear to have an appetite for it, the TV companies will continue to churn it out. (I'm just glad that I have Sky Digital - despite all the damn adverts)
yer but in a way i think its good we are investigating ourselves more intensly .. i think there is an argument to be made that confronting racism has been helped more by big brother than any goverment initiative not to mention people who have tourettes
Necro
16-06-2007, 11:35 PM
I think all big brother did on the issue of racism was show us how deeply stereotypes are engrained into people and how the public can be manipulated into 'positive discrimination' just as easily to allay any guilty feelings people may have about any stereotypes that they may hold. The actual winning by Shilpa was racist in itself... A sort of 'vote for the poor indian girl because she's been racially abused'. Very condescending towards her and of course the guilt allaying - 'I can't be racist I voted for her' ideas. Don't know what to think about the tourettes issue. I didn't care before that rubber-faced goon was on TV and care just as much afterward.

I bid a tenner on her on ebay.... we are now married and are cousins. I did however complain, she cant fuckin iron... bloody ebay again
i never thought of her as a poor indian girl... i just thought she was a very cool lady and have tried to take some of the dignity she showed onboard in myself .. and if a few others have too then maybe big brother has done some good?

Indeed they do! They have the right to remain silent, the right to lose their title and the right to have their picture replaced with a picture of snow white.

Big Brother, find a freak show and all the other reality TV its all a load of twaddle and just a poor excuse for TV programming, cheap and nasty mass produced TV for the brain dead, I have even stopped watching John & Dan Snows 21st Century Warfare programs, the Midway one was so dumbed down it was complete and utter garbage and as for the other nights Stalingrad one:roll:.
Do they honestly think we all want to watch this crap, thank god for the discovery channel and BBC 3 & 4 who still manage to put out some thought provoking television now and again
I can't remember the last time there was a decent documentary series on BBC2 or CH 4 and now new Tricks has finished and No Life on Mars, all I can say is thank god for books.
Necro

I wholeheartedly concur.
perhaps we are all clever and we mostly watch the channel 4 stuff and the history channel and documentaries because they feed our minds and we like that.. i know i do, but the occassional novelty programmes can be rewarding too and doesnt mean you're any less intelligent for watching them
