I'd say it uses about 400-500 MB RAM with the sidebar and Aero Glass running.
According to the task manager that is.
I know a guy who is messing around with it because he hasnt anything better to do :)
That particular person has 1 gig RAM on his system and he says it runs pretty smooth.

And an Athlon 64 3200 slightly scared up.

Anyone got any spare money? I think I need to upgrade... Otherwise it might take a while to save up.

bleedin hell forget the upgrade and just buy a new one that will be obslete before you open the box its a lot of memory just to run core procceses. you must be able to disable some of the background stuff though i have not looked at vista at all yet.

gonna have to have 4g of ram to run games at top spec :o

Vista will be more efficient though at handling memory heaps and core processes shouldn't be affected by security software thanks to a new I/O system (who turns off their anti-virus before loading up game to free up resources etc.?)

Also many of the drivers for Vista will be at the user level, rather than the kernel level, so if a bad driver crahses it shouldn't carsh the whole system.

So whose going to get it when it comes out? Think I'd like too, if I have a system powerful enough to run it by then!

I will, but not straight awy, i'll probably wait at least 6 months, i'd rather let everyone else find all those annoying bugs, in the system as well as the software running on it.

Think it was about a year before i switched to XP pro from 2000 and a bit be4 i went from NT4 to 2000, waiting that bit has always been beneficial be4, can't see things changing for this rls.

You'd probably be ok jumping in if you mostly just word process and play games, but imagine installing it to find something you use constantly dont work! that would fuck you right off!

seems the memory usage aint gonna be as bad as some articles make out and adjust itself to different setups

plus like it says in this 1 no1 really knows until final release

would be safe to assume that if it's beta it will be logging everything left right and centre, which could take up a lot of memory.

i think mrcols idea of waiting for a while until every1 else irons out the bugs sounds best

i installed a version of windows 64 only to find cod uo wouldnt install on it also a lot of drivers wouldnt either

i have noticed a lot of ppl releasing vista drivers but i bet its a while until everyone does it
