HI All.
In my last post which was in December I said I would be going in for an op about April, May, since then things have escallated.
Two weeks ago while at work, just as is was my long weekend off, and half way through my shift I noticed a half moon shadow start to appear over my right eye.
TBO I did not take much notice, just put it down to being tired, and in good need of sleep.
Come Saturday morning it had got darker, so I booked in to A/E at Kings College hospital.
I was told I had a detached retina appearing, and a small tear in the back of the eye, and that I would have to be operated on a.s.a.p., this is as well as the the hole in the retina as well.
I ask why this had happened, they said the new tear in eye had leaked under the retina therefore making it detach.
Well I spent two long hours on my back with just a local anesthetic.
I wanted a general anesthetic, but they said it would be better if they done a local.
I was told they would repair everything this would include the hole in the retina, the tear at the back of the eye, and the detached retina, three in all.
I would not wish this operation on anyone, although half your face is dead you can still feel things going on, and you still feel pain for all the local anesthetic they give you.
I have been under post operative care as an outpatient, and they have told me the op went well.
I have just finished ten days of being face down, "because of the gas in the eye",and this is my first day upright, it feels great, thats why I'm up early, just cant sleep.
I still must sleep on my left side on going to bed, this is because of the gas in the eye so it can press against the retina, and repair.
The gas is the worse, if not the most off putting of all being in the eye.
Its not like gas, its like a liquid, and everytime you move it sloshes backwards, and forwards in the eye, its horrible.
It makes you go off balance, and things are very disorentated.
I have found it so bad I have covered one eye piece of my glasses with gause so I'm using just one eye.
I dont have to go back to the hospital for a month, but I cant go out at all, incase I fall or walk into something this would cause the gas in the eye to leak or the stiches to burst.
Dont mind telling you I'm bored stiff.Worst of all I cannot play any games at all. They did tell me the liquid gas takes twelve weeks to go, but might go a few weeks earlier, cant wait for that.
I got three lots of drops my wife has put into my eye, because of them the eye is constantly dilated,"looks as though I been on drugs".
While they are like this I cant stand to look at bright lights, I spose cos the iris is fully open, and letting in more light than normal, but using just one eye does help.
Well all I can say is that I'm on the mend, although a long process I cant wait to get back, and chatting with you all again in TS.
The worse thing is the boredom of not being able to go out.
Hope everyone is ok, and you all are keeping well.
Speak to you all soon.
