What was the latest FPS that was shown on there, the guy with the really big gun. I seemto recognise it but can't think where from.

My understanding is that the last driving game shown is not yet released (PS3 game). It possible several of the other final examples are as yet unreleased. Maybe this is part of a P3 teaser?
Also as far as evolution goes I aint sure. Evolution is mostly about an improving progression, taking the best of something and moving on. Some of the star war games just took the fact it was starwars and moved on - no evolution just greed. The vector stuff was as much fun as some of the later stuff (on the understanding that "fun" in a non measureable thing).

my point when posting the clip is to show that we are spoilt in the fact that games have moved on in such a way that we could have never have imagined and yet some ppl still seem to moan
seems to me ppl are never going to be happy and just carry on moanin no matter how the games are, however amazing the work thats gone into them is it will never be enuff for some

It's a fairpoint Hellfire. I just feel that although the eyecandy side of games has indeed increased to an incredible degree, it's frequently at the expense of gameplay and originality. It didn't matter that Doom was blocky, or not in fact actual 3D it was a superb game. The more recent Doom was unoriginal (heck what number was it?), gorgeous (if dark) visuals.....but not worth playing.
For that matter look at the Cod Series. version 2 took exactly the same gameplay, tweaked the graphics and .........hmmmmm. As for version 3. I tried it on a ps2 recently and I find it unplayable (though that might be just the lack of a mouse).
I don't feel gobsmacked by the work gone into a game if it produces something shiny but mediocre.
My favourite game ever was a dos based puzzle game called weltrix which was a pseudo 3d tetris clone produced in perhaps 3 colours. I've never seen it's like since - it was an original take on tetris (though not obviously a purely original idea).
I love eye candy - I frequently will wander round in a 3d realistic game admiring the architecture and if I can will lift texture packs for my own art work but pretty games need to be fun too and in recent years I'm finding that more often they're excessively buggy and ultimately not fun in the long run.

so we would be happier playing pong ?? if so why not still play those games why do we play the new shiny games if there not fun ??
i just think no matter wat comes no matter how good it is it will always have faults that we find , but we have to take a step back and look how far we have come and be thankfull that we have these 3d online games with pings less than 500(exept pup) and 150fps to run around in no matter how buggy they are its great
and at least we arnt still sat lookin at 2 lines and a square going from one side of the screen to the other
maybe puzzle games can be enjoyed no matter how basic the graphics... because it is a puzzle game and abstract... just like a crossword, its the working it out in your head that is the challenge/enjoyment
and maybe with games that involve people and real life things like cars, guns, buildings and not abstract stuff, then we inevitably enjoy it more the more realistic and atmospheric and life like it is because it feels like a real world we can relate to
so im not sure you can compare the two types of games in an evolutionary way

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm forever playing new games in the hope of finding something special that does meet both gameplay and graphical beauty standards. I thought I'd found it in Oblivion but for some reason, possibly once again candy over gameplay, the game just palled for me.
Perhaps one of the problems is that with the web opening up the world (which has been great as far as multiplayer experience goes) it's now become impossible to have a "unique" experience as the games you see are forever discussed, reviewed, and talked about so that there are no secrets as such. I know you can in theory avoid such information but it's as much the idea that you are involved in something special...and then realise it's just a duplication experience shared by so many other folks across the world.

Dont know if anyone else saw the news this morning but there was an artical about the developement of the history of gaming. They reviewed how back in the old days young kids would sit in thier bedrooms making games and passing them on via tape. them the move to console games and how things had changed. The point of the artical was that now they have come up with a scanner that scans the features of one self and puts it onto the charactor in game...it looked fantastic. imagine playing COD2 with your face scanned onto the charator your controlling and playing against those you recognise. damn awsome i'd say.

There was a game called Corporation
[Only registered and activated users can see links] 9QQcmdZViewItem
which was an amiga game of several years ago in which you could send off a photograph of yourself and the company would return a floppy disk which you could load into the game to have a hero/avatar play with your scanned face.
Of course it should be possible to produce a better image these days, cause I think the result on the amiga was.....uncomplimentary. Though I suppose it could have been the subject of the photo :p

Phew...that was some thread to get through, and now my pennies worth...game play is the key and being able to play with real people on-line instead of ai is the cream on top. I've had as much enjoyment with head-over heels as Oblivian, and the original Need for Speed (3DO) as the latest re-incarnation so I'd say game play counts more than gfx. :)
aye bullitt i completely agree.. and imagine in a few years time when we will have both ultimate, sophisticated and intelligent game play, played with mates online, with the most amazing graphics .... and have our own heads implanted onto our characters
i cant wait till im 80 and playing online.. its gonna be soo cool
