BT are actually charging ISPs for not givging out MAC codes to customers when they want to leave but if I remember corrently they were very resistant to give pup hers. What bastards.

the woman did give me my MAC at the end of the phone call but i did have to be insistant and firm so i suppose BT did comply to the good practice guide lines

I think this charge is aimed at those ISP's who havent signed up to the MAC good practice guide lines rather than the ones that have so if it helps to get all the other ISP's signing up to it then its probably a good thing

Migration Authorisation Code

you get it from the isp you want to leave, give it to the isp you want to join and your switch over should be seamless and no loss of internet inbetween

its to stop the leaving one isp and wait 3 or 4 weeks without internet for the new one to kick in

Oh right thanks, never heard of that before. I take it this is only internet on BT lines?

Similar to mobile phone numbers - you need a PAC (porting authorisation code) if you want to keep your mobile number when you switch service providers.

most ISP's have signed up to this agreement to give MAC's when customers request it

Well yeah cos BT own all the lines anyway.
